M.Fearn & Son: Traditional Blacksmiths

My son and I work in this beautiful corner of the North Pennines making and repairing items for people and business’s around the Dales, much in the same fashion as the old time Blacksmith.

We are inspired by the place in which we live - a region of sometimes wild contrasts. On a winters night in the forge shop with snow swirling around and the light from the forge fire dancing on the walls - we are transported back to a time when this area was alive with lead mining activities, with blacksmiths shops working around the clock keeping the mines running. The mines are now silent, but industry lives on - and with new ideas and modern techniques blended with the old, we find ourselves becoming progressively more busy.

We forge, weld, sharpen tools, make tools, repair stoves, fabricate on a small scale, create items for the hearth and home, and have an interest in Medieval ironware and the history of iron working.

We undertake special commissions and specialise in ironwork restorations.

Being keen cyclists and living on the C2C route we also repair bikes for ‘Coast to Coasters’.
